Before anyone enables a robot
Five minutes, out loud, at the start of every session with real hardware. Nobody is too experienced to hear it again.
- Rule 1
Know where the disable button is
Enter disables the robot. Spacebar is emergency stop. Find them before you plug anything in.
- Rule 2
Say "enabling" out loud
Every time, before you enable. Everyone near the robot needs to hear it.
- Rule 3
Robot on blocks
For the first drivetrain test, the wheels come off the floor.
- Rule 4
Hands clear of mechanisms
Anything that can move, will, the moment it is enabled.
- Rule 5
Safety glasses on
Everyone in the area, not just whoever is driving.
- Rule 6
One person drives
One person on the controller, one person watching the robot.
If anything looks wrong, disable first
Nobody has ever been told off for hitting disable. Hit it, then work out why.Deploying to the robot

Words you will hear at the robot

- CAN bus

- CAN ID
- The address of a motor controller. Two devices with the same ID break things.
- PWM
- An older, simpler way to control motors, by port number.
- Inversion
- Motors on opposite sides spin opposite ways.
- Vendor libraries
- Code from REV and CTRE that WPILib does not include.
